Glossary Omaha Poker
Implied odds: The proportion of the total amount of money you desire to win if you make your hand to the bet you must now call to continue in the hand.
Jam: Betting or raising with the purpose of re-raising if the action is not closed when it comes back to you.
Kicker: A side card.
Limp in: Calling a bet instead of a raise. (This is used generally on the first round of betting.)
Live card: A card which is not yet seen but assumed to be in the play.
Lock: A hand that cannot lose in one direction.
Muck: To discard your hand and also the dead cards in front of the dealer.
Multi-way pot: A pot where there are more than two players in it.
Nuts: A cinch hand.
Offsuit: Cards not of same suit; used to express two-card combinations in Omaha eight-or-better and the first three cards in seven card stud eight-or-better.
On the come: To draw to a straight or flush.
Outs: The left over cards in the deck which can give the best hand.
Overcall: Calling a bet after another player has called.
Overcard: A card which is higher than the rank of a rival's possible pair.
Overpair: A wired pair in Omaha eight-or-better which is higher than any card on board.
Play back: Raising when someone bets or raises into you.
Put him on: Identifying a rival's hand and play accordingly. To put someone on a pair of queens is to read him for a pair of queens.
Quarter: In Ohmaha eight-or-better, winning only one-fourth of the pot.
Rag: A card which do not have any value to a player's hand.
Raise: Betting an additional amount after someone else has bet.
Razz: seven card stud played for low.
River: The last round of betting (on the fifth-street card) in Omaha eight-or-better; and the last round of betting (on the seventh card) in seven card stud eight-or-better.
Running pair: Fourth-and-fifth street cards of the same rank in Omaha eight-or-better (but a rank different from any of the other cards on board).
Rolled up: Three of a kind on third street in seven card stud eight-or- better.
Rough: A quality of a low hand. The rougher the hand, the worse it is. For example, 8Icl7Idm6Icl4Ih2Isp is regarded as rough eight.
Scoop: Winning the entire pot.
Second pair (third pair): To pair the second (third) highest card on board in Omaha eight-or-better.
Semi-bluff: To bet with a hand which you possibly do not believe is the best hand but which has a good chance of improving to the best hand.
Set: Three-of-a-kind. (In Omaha eight-or-better, it means a pair in your hand and a similar card on board.)
Scare card: An upcard that appears as though it has made a strong hand.
Side action: Normal poker games spread during the same time where the poker tournament is conducted.
Sixth street: The fourth round of betting (on the sixth card) in seven- card stud eight-or-better.
Slow-play: Playing a strong hand as though it were a weak hand.
Smooth: A quality of a low hand. The smoother the hand, the better it is. For example, 8Icl5Idm4Icl3IhAIsp would be regarded as a smooth eight.
Soft game: A poker game that have many non-skilled players.
Steal: forcing your rival to fold when you do not have the best hand.
Steam: To play poorly because you are emotionally worried.
Straight: Five cards of different suits in order.
Suited: Cards with the same suit, used to express two-card combinations in Omaha eight-or-better and the first three cards in seven card stud eight-or-better.
Tell: The behavior a player exhibits that may give away his hand.
Third street: The first round of betting (on the first three cards) in seven card stud eight-or-better.
Top pair: Pairing the highest card on board in Omaha eight-or-better.
Turn: The fourth-street card in Omaha eight-or-better.
Value bet: A bet on the end which should give a profit over a long period even though it is uncertain.

Wired pair: A pair in hand in Omaha eight-or-better and a hidden pair on the first three cards in seven card stud eight-or-better.
